Clotho's Summer Dye Day

Clotho’s two-burner propane cooker, dating from the 1980s, is very old and ready for retirement. We will use up the gas on this Summer Dye Day and send the cooker and gas can off to the dump.

Join us from 9 to 3:30. Bring fibers and skeins of one or two ounces in net bags, one pound per person. Fibers should be well scoured and mordanted, if possible. Bring wet fibers, packed in zip bags in a bucket, one bucket per person. Also bring a bag lunch. Beverages provided. You should have rubber gloves and apron or just old clothes. If you have a favorite chair or hat bring it. We have mostly hard chairs & benches.

Do not bring spinning wheels, looms or other equipment. Everyone will be busy, monitoring pots, taking temperatures, measuring ph, etc.

We will have a large assortment of natural dyes in a range of colors. Two participants will be assigned to each pot. Each pot will have a recipe and all supplies necessary to dye a pound of fiber.

If you are not accustomed to mordanting we will have at least one yellow, one red dye, and indigo that will be suitable for un-mordanted fibers. This Dye Day is suitable for beginners or experienced dyers. Clotho’s members can sign up at the June meeting on Saturday, 6/15. Cost for this Dye Day is $20, payable at the event by cash or check to Becky Blake.
