Tannin Workshop


 In this workshop we will explore various tannins.  Participants will be able to dye or mordant up to a pound of cellulose fiber, yarn, or fabric and make notes with samples on the results for future reference in this one day (5 hour) workshop.

Tannin (tannic acid) has traditionally been used as a mordant on cotton. Tannins are found in sap, bark, wood, leaves, roots, fruits, and galls.  

 

 

 

Materials included in workshop fee: 

  • All dyes and chemicals
  • Tags for dye goods
  • Workbook with recipes, instructions, and other handouts
  • Sample yarns
  • Coffee, tea, and bottled water

Supply list (participant must bring):

  • Clean washed wetted cellulose fiber (1# dry weight)
  • Rubber gloves
  • Apron
  • Plastic bucket
  • Plastic zip lock bags for wet fibers and fabric
  • Bag lunch
